Huskers fall to Ohio State 3-1

The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team (17-3, 9-2) dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 24-26, 25-19, 23-25) decision to the No. 20 Ohio State Buckeyes Friday night at the NU Coliseum.
NU saw four Huskers record double-doubles on the night as Lauren Cook had 50 assists and 10 digs, Morgan Broekhuis notched 19 kills and 14 digs, Gina Mancuso had 13 kills and 12 digs and Hannah Werth posted 13 kills and 14 digs.
The Huskers hit .225 in the match and had seven team blocks, while Ohio State hit .250 and had 13 team blocks.
Following the match the Huskers honored over 60 alumni who were present, while Coach Cook and Coach Terry Pettit spoke to the 4,168 in attendance.
Ohio State took an early 5-1 lead in the first set, until a kill from Mancuso put NU up 7-6. A 6-0 run from the Buckeyes made it 12-7, OSU, and forced the Huskers to call a timeout. The Huskers cut the Buckeye's lead to 16-15, while a solo block from Haggerty put NU down 21-20. The Buckeyes would be too much for Nebrasksa in the first set though as NU dropped the set 25-22, trailing 0-1 in the match.
Broekhuis had seven kills for the Huskers in the first set, while Thramer notched three. Cook tabbed 13 assists, but the Huskers hit just .194 in the set. Ohio State posted a .282 hitting percentage, and both the Buckeyes and Huskers had two team kills.
A kill and solo block by Werth gave Nebraska a 7-4 lead in the second set, while an error by the Buckeyes made it 13-8, Huskers and forced OSU to use a timeout. Ohio State used three consecutive points to take a 17-16 lead, but an ace from Werth put NU up 19-17. The Huskers and Buckeyes would fight back and forth until OSU eventually came out on top in the set, winning 26-24 to lead the match 2-0.
Broekhuis had five kills in the set, while Werth had four. Cook notched 13 assists, as the Huskers hit. 263. Ohio State recorded a .265 hitting percentage and four team blocks, compared to NU's two.
Nebraska opened the third set with a 6-4 lead on a service ace of Werth. Mancuso put the Huskers up 10-6, while a kill from Broekhuis made it 14-9, Nebraska. A kill by Mancuso, followed by a hitting error from the Buckeyes put Nebraska ahead 19-14 and forced OSU to use its final timeout. A long rally and huge kill by Broekhuis made it 20-14, Huskers, as NU went on to take the third set 25-19.
Mancuso and Broekhuis both had five kills in the third set, while Werth had four of her own. Cook notched 14 assists, as the Huskers hit .300. Ohio State recorded a .214 hitting percentage in the set.
A service ace from Dykstra made it 2-0 early in the fourth set, while the Huskers and Buckeyes then tied up at 7-7. Ohio State then took a 12-9 lead over Nebraska. A kill by Mancuso made it 19-17, Buckeyes, but Ohio State just kept fighting as they took a four-point lead. A kill by Werth put Nebraska within one at 22-21, but it would not be enough as the Buckeyes went on to take the fourth set 25-23, completing the 3-1 win.
Mancuso and Werth both had four kills in the fourth set, while Broekhuis and Haggerty had two. Cook notched 10 assists as the Huskers hit .152 in the set. Ohio State recorded a .244 hitting percentage.
Nebraska will now turn its attention to No. 1 Penn State as the Nittany Lions come to the NU Coliseum on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a match that will air live on the Big Ten Network.
