Huskers, Hawkeyes to play annual ‘Heroes Game’

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – The new Big Ten football rivalry between Nebraska and Iowa will be known as the “Heroes Game.”

Athletic directors Tom Osborne of Nebraska and Gary Barta of Iowa announced in Chicago on Friday that their schools' annual game will honor citizens who are “admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities.”

Heroes will be nominated by friends, neighbors or co-workers and will be guests of the two teams. Each person will have his or her name and hometown etched on the Heroes Game trophy.

The game also will raise funds for a nonprofit organization in each state.

The Cornhuskers and Hawkeyes play their first game as Big Ten rivals on Nov. 25 in Lincoln.

Supermarket chain Hy-Vee will be the Heroes Game title sponsor.
