Huskers Hold Final Spring Practice

The Nebraska football team held its final practice of the spring on Wednesday at the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields in preparation for Saturday's spring game. Head Coach Bo Pelini spoke to the media following practice.
“It was a good go today,” Pelini said. “It was a spirited go. We got a lot done. It was a good practice to finish this thing off and get ready for Saturday. That's more of a show for the fans obviously and a show of appreciation. We're going to be thin because we have some guys nicked up that won't participate but we split the team in half and we are going to have some guys play on both teams. We'll end up being pretty basic and have some fun with it.”
Pelini said that coaches will pick the teams and added that senior quarterback Taylor Martinez will play sparingly. He also said that Ameer Abdullah and David Santos among others will sit out on Saturday because of injury.
“It was a physical spring and a hard-hitting spring, so we have some guys that are nicked up and what you'd expect at this time,” Pelini said. “With all the things we have coming up after the spring game, the offseason program and that type of thing, we're not going to put anyone at risk that is nicked up going into this thing.”
Pelini added that he can't do much evaluation off a spring game.
“I mean a little bit,” Pelini said. “It's blocking and tackling. I want to see how guys react and I want to see execution. It's not about tricking the other team or anything else; it's about playing basic fundamentals and basic football. I want to see how they handle the environment.”
The Red-White Spring Game kicks off Saturday at 2 p.m., and will be shown on Big Ten Network. Tickets are available at Huskers.com and fans are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance to avoid long lines on Saturday.
