Huskers tied for 10th after season-opening round

Madison, Wis. – The Nebraska men’s golf team shot 298 in the first round of the Badger Invitational on Sunday, and sit in a tie for 10th place.Michael Colgate paced the Huskers in the opening round with his 1-over-par 73 at University Ridge Golf Course, a par-72, 7,259-yard layout. The senior, who led NU in stroke average last season, is tied for 19th individually.Two Huskers, Jace Guthmiller and Sean Song, are tied for 31st after each carding 74. Senior Justin Jennings is tied for 58th after a 5-over-par 77. Freshman Tanner Owen posted 7-over-par 79 in his Husker debut and is tied for 75th at the Badger Invite.NU is tied with Big Ten foe Rutgers at 298. Illinois State and Iowa State share the team lead after 18 holes with 286 apiece.Scores are available at https://m.birdiefire.com/tournament/24922/. The second round begins on Monday at 9 a.m. (CT), and the final round is slated for Tuesday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
