A Kearney family is recovering from an accident that sent their car into a ditch.
The accident on I-80 had traffic backed up for miles Thursday night. Part of the Interstate was shutdown for a few hours. The crash happened around 4:30 Thursday afternoon in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 396 – that's just east of the Northwest 48th street exit.
The Nebraska State Patrol says a dump truck, in the construction zone, struck the back of a Mazda. The car was pushed off the road and into a ditch, then struck a ravine and flipped. State Patrol Spokeswoman Deb Collins says a family from Kearney was inside that car.
The female driver, 23-year-old Ravin Addy-Cruz was flown to BryanLGH West in critical condition. Her husband, Edgar, suffered broken ribs, and their daughter, 1-year-old Hazel suffered bumps and bruises.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured. No citations have been issued in the accident.
