Lincoln Public Schools officials say nearly a quarter of Zeman Elementary School’s students called in sick on Friday.

LPS spokesperson Zachary Baehr says 104 students, 23 percent, were absent on Friday. Baehr says that’s a significant increase from 16 percent absent on Thursday. He says not all students were experiencing the same symptoms, so it’s difficult to say whether or not these are flu cases or other illnesses.

According to LPS, no other school experienced anything close to those numbers.

Thursday night, Baehr says all tables and surface areas and other “high hand-traffic places” received extra cleaning. Friday night, additional crews from the district office helped custodial staff deep-clean the building with a stronger disinfectant, and may continue to work over the three-day weekend.
