Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office are responding to an injury accident near Highway 77 and Firth Road around 8:30 this morning.

Five people were transported to the hospital, with one in critical condition taken by Star Care helicopter.

Based on preliminary investigations, LSO says a Volkswagen travelling almost 90 miles an hour was driving south on Highway 77, when it struck a Dodge that had turned from Firth Road onto Highway 77 causing both cars to lose control.

The passenger of the Volkswagen was transported by helicopter, and the driver by ambulance. There were three in the Dodge, a mother, also transported to the hospital, and two small children, who have been medically cleared.

No citations have been issued yet.

When Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporters left the scene around 10:00 a.m., the Southbound lane of Highway 77 was still closed, but in the process of being re-opened.
