What started as a public intoxication arrest led to Lincoln Police wrestling away a gun from a man this weekend.

39-year-old Vaughn Newman of Lincoln was uncooperative with officers when they tried to arrest him for being drunk and having an open container in his car Saturday near 26th and Cornhusker late Saturday night.

Newman resisted arrest and that’s when an officer saw a loaded handgun in his waistband.

Police were able to grab the gun before Newman could. It turns out, that gun was stolen from Archer Arms back on December 25, 2016.

Newman now faces several charges.
