John Larsen keeps liquor license

John Larsen, known for his role in Lincoln Southeast High School athletics and arrest for DUI in March received some good news on Thursday.  Larsen gets to keep his liquor license.

The trouble started on March 3 after John Larsen's high school girls basketball team was eliminated from this years state tournament.  Larsen and other coaches went to his bar, the Press Box, where they ate lunch and had some drinks.  He told the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission, “We started drinking and obviously, I consumed too much and then upon leaving and driving home, I had gotten a DUI.”

Shortly after, he notified the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission of his arrest. Director of the Commission, Hobert Rupe, says Larsen clearly put the public and his license at risk with his actions.  Larsen says his staff is trained properly to make decisions on serving customers and the whole thing was a big mistake.  “We have, in the time that we've been open, rejected people.  We quit serving certain people, so I feel like our employees are aware and do a good job of monitoring that.”

The commission held the hearing to determine whether Larsen should be able to keep his liquor license.  Chairman of the Commission, Robert Batt, says Larsen has made positive steps by taking responsibility for his actions.  The commission unanimously dismissed any type of suspensions or revocations, allowing Larsen to keep his liquor license.  “I think that Mr. Larsen has gotten the message in full and I don't think we're going to have a problem anymore.”
