Kearney Archway Honored

The Great Platte River Road Archway in Kearney has “a little brass, a lot of sass and a ton of vision.''

That's according to the writer who put together a top 10 list of Western museums for True West magazine and gave the central Nebraska tourist spot the top slot.

Western heritage writer Johnny Boggs made the selections for the annual award based on his extensive travels throughout the West and research. He says he looks for places that bring history to life.

The museum that spans Interstate 80 documents Oregon Trail travelers in the mid-1800s and celebrates the Lincoln Highway, sandhill cranes and American Indians, among other topics.

The list will be featured in the magazine's May issue. It will be on newsstands April 21.
