Kelsey Manchester Fundraiser

Residents in one small Nebraska town are coming together to help support one very brave young lady.

The town of Swanton held a special benefit tonight to help support Kelsey Manchester, the little girl who recently survived meningitis.

The energy was high in Swanton today as hundreds of residents gathered to support Kelsey and her family. Kelsey was diagnosed with meningitis back in January.  But she has made an incredible recovery.

Tonight's benefit was put on to help pay for hearing aids and other medical expenses. Kelsey couldn't be happier with the outcome. “it feels great knowing that people I know and people I don't know love me and care about me.”

Polka music was playing as supporters chowed down on bar–b–que and cake. There was also a silent auction which had everything from stuffed animals to cornhusker memorabilia. But there's no doubt who was the hit of the party.

Shannon Niemeyer says “she's the little free spirit of swanton. She's riding her bike. She's on her scooter past my salon, stopping in almost every day.”

Kelsey even got support from Ivy Parker, the older sister of josef parker, the little boy who lost his battle with meningitis around the time she was diagnosed. Kelsey's parents say her attitude is what gave her the strength to survive.

The Manchester's say “she's not letting it get her down. She wants to fight his thing and win. And I believe she will.”

Kelsey's family said they didn't have a goal going in to the fundraiser tonight, but obviously Kelsey's medical bill are extensive, so an additional fund has been set up for Kelsey at the Tri County Bank.
