Lakers Even Series

(Los Angeles-AP) — Kobe Bryant came through when the Los Angeles Lakers needed him most. Bryant scored 33 points, and the Lakers evened the NBA finals at a game apiece by beating the Detroit Pistons 99-to-91 in overtime.

Bryant forced overtime by hitting a three-pointer with two-point-one seconds left in regulation. He added four points and two assists in O-T as the Lakers avenged Sunday's 87-to-75 loss to the Pistons.

Bryant shot 14-of-27 after going 10-of-27 in the series opener.

Shaquille O'neal had six points in O-T to finish with 29 points and seven rebounds. And Luke Walton came off the bench to contribute seven points, five rebounds and eight assists.

Ben Wallace topped Detroit with 14 rebounds and hit a layup to put the pistons ahead 89-to-83 with 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

But Shaq converted a three-point play before Bryant's long basket extended the game.

Chauncey Billups paced the Pistons in scoring for the second straight game, getting 27 despite shooting 6-to-15.

Richard Hamilton added 26 points for the pistons, who host game three on Thursday.
