Laundry Chemicals May Have Caused Fatal Fire

Authorities say a fire in Doniphan that killed a little girl sparked from something that most of us have in our own homes, a pile of clean laundry. Unfortunately the laundry was sitting in five year old Katie Lahm's bedroom closet. The fire that sparked from the clothes blocked her only way out. Authorities now believe residue left on the clean clothes, such as detergent, bleach, or fabric softener, could have been the ingredients that ignited the fire.

Fire officials says you can prevent a laundry fire by following all of the manufacturer's instructions when doing laundry.

Other tips to follow:

1. make sure you do not overload your dryer.

2. make sure you use the correct amount of laundry detergent.

3. also make sure you use the correct amount of fabric softener.

4. when you take clothes out of the dryer, make sure they are cool before you take them out.
