Legislature advances bill for midwives
The Nebraska Legislature has advanced a measure to keep hospitals from barring all certified nurse midwives from providing care to women and newborns within their facilities.
Lincoln Sen. Tony Fulton's bill (LB68) would add certified nurse midwives to the list of practitioners who shall not be denied clinical privileges, solely based on the type of credential they hold, within a licensed health care facility. The bill advanced Friday from the first round of debate. It must move through two more rounds of debate before it can be passed, and must be signed by the governor to be enacted into law.
