Legislature Will Wait to Vote on Casino Gambling Bill

A legislative committee wants to wait for a legal opinion before voting on a bill that would ask Nebraskans to vote on allowing casinos in the state. The General Affairs committee decided Wednesday it would wait for the opinion before voting on advancing the bill for debate. The opinion was requested by Senator Phil Erdman of Bayard. Erdman wants to know if the proposed constitutional amendment is outside of the purpose of the special session called by Governor Johanns. The Governor says opening the session up to the issue would be a distraction.
