LES Wants to Expand it’s Services
LES, who gives us our electricity wants to expand its services. But those opposed say it could create direct competition for private businesses. Lincoln Electric System wants to offer high-speed internet service to improve the city's economy. But Alltel says they'd be doing just the opposite. LES wants to make their unused fiber optic lines that are already going into local businesses available for internet service. But Alltel, who also provides high-speed internet service, says they would become direct competition. They say it's not fair for a publicly subsidized company to compete with a private business.
If approved by the city council, the LES fiber optic line will only be available to local businesses, not homes. More public hearings will be held on this issue. The city council is expected to vote on it sometime in March
