Letter Sent To Mayor’s Office Contained Hazardous Substance

A letter addressed to Lincoln Mayor Coleen Seng caused some tense moments Monday afternoon. Inside the envelope, liquid mercury was found. That sparked a hazmat level one response, sending both Lincoln Fire and Rescue and the Health Department down to the County/City Building. Lincoln police tell us that the piece of mail also contained a note but won't release what the note said.

The Mayor's office was not evacuated as a result of the mercury spill, and we're told neither the Mayor nor any of her staff were injured.
