Levee near Hamburg, Iowa breaks
A levee near Hamburg, Iowa breached Monday morning. Floodwaters are expected to reach the town by tomorrow.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says a full breach has occurred on the Missouri River Federal levee L-575 near Hamburg, Iowa this morning. The river punched a 50-foot-wide hole in the levee and is swamping farmland. The Army Corps of Engineers is working to make sure a secondary levee around Hamburg is completed.
Hamburg is near Highway 2 across the Missouri River in Iowa. Floodwaters could reach the town Tuesday. Also, the water could force Iowa state officials to shut down I-29.
