LFR called to Hazmat situation

A scary Hazmat situation today closed down an entire block in north Lincoln.  Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to a chemical spill around 11 o'clock Friday morning at 27th and Holdrege.

They had to close the northbound lanes for about a block. They say a driver in the area called in saying a passing truck had two unmarked containers fall from the vehicle spilling an unknown red liquid.

“We put down a hi-dry to help absorb it up some of the chemicals started having a little reaction the best we can tell it's like an insulation, an expanding insulation,” Action Battalion Chief Mike Smith said.

The health department was called in and determined the material was not hazardous- officials are trying to locate the truck that was carrying the containers.
