Lightning strikes tree and damages homes

Residents in a south Lincoln neighborhood were shaken up by a lightning strike.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue received the call around 8:00 Monday morning that lightning struck a tree near 11th and A streets.  The tree sits in between 2 homes and caused damaged to both.  Gutters and their windows were damaged.

“We got called over here that a tree was on fire after being hit by lightning. We didn't find any fire pretty much it was blown to smithereens probably one of the worst strikes I've seen in 30 years on the job,” says LFR Captain Brett Davis.

The lightning did not cause any power outages and there were no injuries.
