Lincoln Bar Owners Turn in Smoking Petition
A group of Lincoln bar owners turned in petitions Tuesday to rescind a smoking ban passed by the city council. The group needed signatures from 2,146 registered voters. Brian Kitten, co-owner of Brewsky's Food and Spirits and a petition drive organizer, says the group turned in 4,238 signatures.
If the petition and signatures are judged valid, the smoking law will be put on the council's agenda for reconsideration. If the council retains the ban on smoking inside almost all workplaces, voters will have a chance to repeal it. Kitten says he thinks the council will put it on the ballot instead of reconsidering its past action. Enforcement of the smoking ban is scheduled to begin November first.
