Lincoln Church Celebrates 134th Anniversary

A centuries-old Lincoln church celebrated its anniversary Saturday with a special service. There was food, festivities and fun as the Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church rang-in its 134th anniversary. The church was established way back in 1871, making it the oldest African-American church in Lincoln. Members of Quinn Chapel say they were thankful to celebrate such a historic day for their church. The long history of the church and its members is also a history of Lincoln, because the church was pivotal in the city's civil rights movement.  The church is under renovation at this time, but nearly 60 active church members hope the church continues to grow in faith and in years of worship. The church is not only the oldest African-American church in Lincoln, it is also the second oldest African-American church in the entire state of Nebraska.
