Lincoln man returns after devastating Mt. Everest trip

A Lincoln man is back home after trying to climb Mount Everest.

His adventure, cut short by an avalanche that took 16 lives.

Star City Motor Sports owner, Robert Kay, returned to Lincoln on Monday.

He was in Nepal for his third attempt at the climb when the avalanche happened.

In the days following the devastating event, the Sherpas, who Robert calls the unsung heroes of the mountain, called off any more climbs for the year.

“You try to balance your personal disappointment with this incredible human tragedy, and you realize in a sense of proportion, you don’t have much to complain about,” says Kay.

No man will climb up the Nepal side of Everest this spring.

He may try again, but it wouldn’t be until at least 2016.
