A popular Lincoln monument was rededicated to the city today.

The statue, which sits just outside the West side of the Capitol was first dedicated 100 years ago here in Lincoln.

This afternoon, people gathered again to honor the significance of the 16th president on our country and state, as well as hear the plans for a new night–time lighting scheme for the monument.

Capitol Administrator Bob Ripley says, “we have a very nice environment in which to live.   We have a beautiful city thanks to monuments like this to enjoy.”

The monument serves as a spot for many nighttime rallies and vigils in the city.
