Lincoln Plans 9-11 Ceremonies

With the one year anniversary of September 11th fast approaching, cities all over the country are preparing for how they want to honor the loved ones lost. Thursday, the mayor announced September 11th as Patriot Day here in Lincoln.

This year's vigil will be held at Pioneers Park. Special guests of the event will be area family members who lost loved ones in the attacks. Local fire and law enforcement personal and others in the community who assisted in recovery operations will also be present. As part of the ceremony a group of immigrants will become United States citizens, to show that Americans want liberty and justice for all. The ceremony begins at 7pm that night. Mayor Wesely says to get there early to grab a seat. They are hoping because it's a school night to be done by 8pm.

This year they have to ask for no candles because of the dry conditions. If it's raining that night organizers plan to move the event to the Pershing Center.
