Lincoln Public Schools created an online form for volunteers to fill out.

But now, unlike year's past, they might have to go through a background check, especially if they are interacting with students.

Volunteers with criminal records or people chaperoning a field trip will have a background check.

Lincoln Public Schools says they're trying to do everything they can to keep students safe.

“I think security is on everyone's mind, you know, we want children to be safe and we just want to take every precaution that we can to make sure that we're doing our part,” LPS Director of Elementary Education Cindy Schwaninger said.
