Lindheim Advances to Second Round after Comeback

Nebraska's Benedikt Lindheim won his first round match this afternoon in the ITA All-American Championships qualifying round against East Tennessee State's Jesus Bandres, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Lindheim was down 3-0 in the third set and came back to defeat Bandres in a match that took a little over four hours.

“Overall it was an exciting match, and a good testament to Benedikt who was down 3-0 and came back to win in the third set,” Nebraska head coach Kerry McDermott said. “He's a good fighter, and that's why he's our senior captain because he never gives up. This is just a good testament to his hard work, and it's something we want the other guys on the team to see.”

The other Husker playing today was Andre Stenger, who was defeated by Mississippi State's James Chaudry, 6-1, 7-5.

Lindheim will play his second round match tomorrow. Also playing tomorrow for the Huskers in the doubles play qualifying tournament will be the duo of Stenger and Eric Sock. They will face off against Memphis's Johnny Grimal and Leon Nasemann at 4 p.m.
