Living Wage Ordinance Approved

Lincoln now has a living wage ordinance. It was passed Monday night by the City Council.. The controversial proposal was introduced by Councilman Terry Werner and would create a minimum wage for some businesses that contract at least 25-thousand dollars with Lincoln. They would have to pay $8.85 an hour if they provide health insurance for their workers. If they don't, they would need to pay $9.73 an hour. The vote to pass the ordinance was 4 to 3. Voting “no” was Jon Camp, Ken Svoboda and Glenn Friendt.
