Local 9-11 Events

There are special events throughout Lincoln to remember the lives lost and to honor the heroes that emerged. Governor Johanns would like Nebraskans to fly their flags at half staff on Patriot Day. The morning will start with a moment of silence around 7:45 a.m., central time, the moment the first plane hit the north tower. People are encouraged to attend a Patriot Day Ceremony at the State Capitol Rotunda starting at 7:30 Wednesday morning. Also open to the public at 11:55, The University of Nebraska will hold a program on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The U-N-L Police Honor Guard and R-O-T-C will present the colors along with music and a speaker who was only a block away from the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks. The city of Lincoln will hold a Community Memorial Ceremony Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Pinewood Bowl in Pioneers Park. Gates will open at 6, and the public must use the north entrance off of Van Dorn. Finally, the Wyuka Cemetery will shine light beams straight up into the night sky from the center of the cemetery. The beams of light will represent the Twin Towers that once were.
