Local Nail Salon Supports Troops
Deb Berka owns a nail salon and is organizing a benefit, to raise money and supplies for troops serving in Iraq.
By donating, you could get yourself some much needed pampering. Deb Berka says after hearing about a relative's experience in Iraq, she wanted to do something, but didn't know what. So she turned to the one thing she could think of, offering discounted services at her nail salon and then putting every penny toward helping those serving overseas.
A benefit at Diva's Nail salon on Veterans' Day, 4 certified nail technicians and 2 licensed massage therapists will donate their time and supplies, to help the cause. Berka's husband's cousin has been overseas for just a few months now.
Berka's also gathering non-perishable, packaged foods, and things like cards, and dominos, to ship to Reimers, and fellow members of the Army's 10th mountain division. And that's where her nail salon comes in, 10-dollars on Saturday, November 11th gets customers a 30-minute manicure or pedicure, or even a 10-minute seated massage.
The event is scheduled from 11 to 5 PM on Veteran's Day at Diva's Nail Salon at 33rd and B streets in Lincoln. Berka is asking for those interested in participating, to call ahead for an appointment. Cash donations will also be accepted.
