Just two weeks after a Lincoln fire captain was hit while riding his bike to work. A similar accident has claimed the life of a local scientist. James Derr was a native Nebraskan, a renowned scientist, athlete and family man. On April26th, he was hit by a truck while riding his bike near 68th and Bennett road. He died the following Monday from his injuries. Derr's wife of 25 years, says her husband's favorite things were biking and science. He worked as a scientist for Pfizer developing a vaccine for feline leukemia. The company says he was an expert in veterinary medicine. But Michelle Derr says these were just some of his accomplishments. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office says the driver who hit Derr, has been ticketed for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
