LPD: Man arrested for confronting another with gun at park
Lincoln police say the suspect confronted the victim at Fleming Fields near 32nd and Leighton.
Officer Katie Flood says 25-year-old Mamo Khalaf was arrested this morning following the disturbance. Flood says just after 8 a.m. Thursday, a 61-year-old man was taking a morning walk when he was confronted by Khalaf. Through interviews, Lincoln Police investigators learned that the rear window to Khalaf's red Honda Accord was shattered overnight. He discovered the damage at 4 a.m. and felt that his estranged wife's family may be responsible. That led to the confrontation with the victim, who is the wife's uncle.
Police say during the argument, Khalaf got a handgun from his car and threatened to kill the victim. A 72-year-old city park volunteer was working in the park and intervened. Khalaf left once the volunteer got involved. Neither the victim or the volunteer were injured.
Khalaf was located a short time later near 3rd & Judson and the loaded 9mm handgun was recovered. He has been cited for Terroristic Threats, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
