LPS School Board delays vote on new calendar

The LPS school board delayed voting on a new calendar for the 2011-2012 school year after parents expressed concerns over an earlier start date.

The board was going to vote Tuesday night on a proposal that would have sent kids to school on August 10 and the first semester before winter break.  The last day would be May 23.

A calendar committee offered a second option.  It would have school beginning on August 15 and would still allow the first semester to end before winter break by shortening the fall break to a three day weekend, which would begin October 17.  The last day would still be May 23.

For reference, the 2009-2010 began on August 19 and will end on June 3.  The 2010-2011 year will start August 18 and end May 27.

The board decided to postpone the vote until its June 8th meeting.
