Lt. Gov. Dave Heineman Would Become Our 39th Governor

A Fremont native, Dave Heinemen finally got his wish of becoming Nebraska's next governor. Heinemen served for years on Fremont's city council board before coming to Lincoln. Now 56 years old, Heineman looks forward to the next two years.

Governor Johanns selected Heineman to replace Dave Maurstad in 2001. Heineman says it was that experience that prepared him for the challenges ahead.

After September 11th, Heineman became Nebraska's Homeland Security Advisor something he is very proud of, but Thursday's news came more as a shock to the Fremont native.

When he becomes Governor, Heinemen will elect replacements for both the Lieutenant Governor and Homeland Security Advisor.
