A report of a suspicious bag at the Grand Theatre downtown Saturday night led Lincoln Police to an unrelated arrest.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Lincoln Police were called to the theatre on a report of a suspicious bag tucked away in the corner of the ticket sales area. After investigation, the bag was not found to be suspicious, but officials said a man who had been watching a movie went to claim the bag after the movie was over. 28-year-old Derek Walton was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor offense warrant after police confirmed the bag was his. Officials say Walton is listed as homeless, and did not specify what his misdemeanor offense was. Inside the bag was the man’s laptop and personal items.

The main entrance of the theatre was blocked off for a short period of time while crews investigated. No one was allowed in. Those watching a movie were told to exit the O Street doors after the showing was over. A moviegoer told Channel 8 Eyewitness News some people inside were a little shaken up after they were told a bag was being investigated, but stayed for the duration of the movie.
