The Sarpy County Sheriff says Zachari Johnson, the 21-year-old homeless man from Lincoln, is to blame for all of the commotion at Offutt Air Force Base Monday.

Commotion that began with a stolen car in the Capitol City from Gabriel Williamson. “My heart goes out to the guy that stole it because either something wasn't right or he was in a really bad condition because he did some pretty desperate things,” Williamson said.

But some of them were not so new. Authorities say Johnson has been involved in criminal activity for years and records show he was due in court in July for stealing another car in February. “He is a suspect in three other thefts in the Lincoln area and he does have quite an extensive record including thefts and sexual assault,” said Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis.

On Monday, Sarpy County authorities say Johnson led them on a chase after they spotted him driving the stolen car and attempted to pull him over. They say he drove onto the base where he was shot by a security guard. Johnson later died at the hospital.
