Lincoln Police said an attempted robbery early Thursday morning turned into a shooting that has left a man in the hospital.

It happened around 3 a.m. near 25th and Vine Streets.

Police said 37-year-old Elias Maldonado-Palma was taking out the trash when he was approached by three suspects. According to police, they demanded money from him. Police said when Maldonado-Palma told them he didn’t have any, one of the suspects reached for his pocket. That’s when police said Maldonado-Palma heard a loud bang.

“The victim did suffer two gunshot wounds to his right shoulder area,” Ofc. Katie Flood said.

Maldonado-Palma was taken to the hospital for surgery.  According to his employer, he hasn’t been released yet

Police describe the suspects as tall and skinny males, two black and one Hispanic, 18 to 27 years old.

They’re still at large.
