Marlborough Named Big XII Offensive POW
Sophomore Morgan Marlborough became the third Husker to pick up a conference player of the week award this season as she earned the offensive honor Tuesday from the Big 12 office. It is the fourth time Marlborough has earned a Big 12 player of the week award during her career.
A native of Lee's Summit, Mo., Marlborough netted three goals last weekend as the Huskers posted a 2-1 win over Texas and were edged 2-1 by No. 6 Texas A&M. Marlborough's goals against the Longhorns were separated by only 2 1/2 minutes as the Huskers downed a Texas squad that was ranked in two of the three top 25 polls. The sophomore added a goal against the Aggies to give her three goals on just five shots over the weekend.
The current Big 12 scoring leader, Marlborough ranks third nationally in goals (10) and fourth in points (23). She has 31 career goals in less than two seasons to rank No. 7 on the school's all-time list.
In addition to Marlborough, Colorado's Annie Brunner (Defensive) and Lizzy Herzl (Newcomer) earned the other two weekly awards from the Big 12 Conference. Marlborough joins senior Tara Macdonald (Defensive; Aug. 31) and sophomore Jordan Jackson (Offensive; Sept. 21) in earning a Big 12 Player of the Week award this season.
Following the first week of conference action, Nebraska is 8-3-0 overall with a 1-1-0 record in Big 12 play. The Huskers travel to Baylor (7-3-1) and Texas Tech (8-3-0) this weekend.
