Marlenia Thornton

Marlenia was born in Detroit, but she calls Lincoln home. Even as a toddler, she would pretend to write stories by scribbling on the backs of books and pretend to read her scribble. Then, one day, she shadowed a couple of anchors at Channel 8 Eyewitness News and  fell in love with the industry.

Marlenia attended UNL and is a graduate of the Journalism School, with a minor in political science. She worked for for Nebraska Public Radio (NET) for two years as a reporter and producer while in college.  She also took advantage of a television internship while going to school. She became a reporter for the Channel 8 Eyewitness news in 2015. “Story telling is an art form and one that can truly transform lives,” says Marlenia and she continues, “I believe people’s stories have value and that you never know whose life can be changed by sharing it. This is why I love reporting.”

In her spare time, she loves to browse fashion and beauty blogs. She loves clothing, dancing and listening to music. She also enjoys reading, writing and working with at-risk youth. “I absolutely love helping people. If there’s anything I can do to help someone, I will try my best to meet their needs, “ says Marlenia.
