Update: Jury Finds Matthew Fox Guilty

The jury has found Matthew Fox guilty of 1st degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

The verdict was handed down just before 5 O'clock on Friday after hours of deliberations.

Fox was accused of killing his mother with an ax in 2008.

In closing arguments Friday, Matthew Fox's attorneys asked jurors to find Fox not guilty by reason of insanity.  During the trial this week, the defense said Fox was swinging the ax out of frustration and his mother walked into it.  Her body had been found by police in the basement with the ax nearby.

Testimony this week included video of Fox after his arrest.  The video showed Fox in the police interview room fidgeting and banging his head on a table.

The prosecutors asked jurors to find Fox guilty of first degree murder.  The jurors went into deliberation at around noon on Friday.  If they do not reach a verdict, they will be sent home to return on Monday.   If convicted, Fox faces life in prison.
