Melina was born and raised in Nebraska. She calls Omaha home, she bleeds Husker red and loves the excitement of game day in Lincoln. “Nebraska is truly the good life”, Melina says. Melina is the youngest in her family of three brothers and one sister. Her fondest memories of her childhood is taking family vacations and getting together for the holidays.
Her passion for journalism began when she was a youngster. Every summer she rode her bike to the neighborhood pool. Her journey would take her past a local television station. “I dreamed of being a reporter, just like the ones that I had seen entering and exiting the building on those hot summer days”, Melina remembers. After getting a degree in biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, she decided she would pursue her dream and enrolled in the Journalism College at UNL where she graduated with a broadcast journalism degree. Before coming to Channel 8 KLKN-TV, she interned at KPTM, worked for KRNU and reported for KFOR 1240AM. Melina started as an intern at Channel 8 Eyewitness news, worked as a tape editor and now is a photojournalist. “I love what I do. Being there as history is occurring is exciting…People have a right to know the truth and what's going on around them and I'm here to tell it”, she adds.
She has played the violin since she was 8 years old and loves to travel, spend time with family and friends, golf, enjoys fine dining, see new movies and shop.
