Murder suspect pleas not guilty to April homicide

Markel Steele, who was arrested for the April 18th murder of Christopher Coleman and assault of Jerry Griffis, Jr., entered a plea deal in District Court Wednesday.

Steele, 17, pleaded not guilty to first degree murder, first degree assault, animal cruelty, robbery and four counts of use of firearm to commit a felony; 8 counts in all.

He was charged with first degree murder as an adult on July 13 in court, where his bond was set at $1 million.

Steele’s court date is set for November 7, 2016.
