National Guard Members Leaving for Afghanistan
A group of National Guard Soldiers are preparing to head to Afghanistan. 25 soldiers will be leaving their families just days after Christmas to spend the next year in Afghanistan. Their mission will be training the Afghan National Army. In front of a crowd of family and friends, they received their sendoff from Governor Johanns and Senator Ben Nelson. Both referred to Afghanistan as a success for the war on terror, and told the soldiers they would be fundamental in ensuring the long-term stability of the country.
The soldiers will get to be home for Christmas, and then they'll be heading to Fort Hood, Texas for training next week. From there, they'll be off to Afghanistan.
