Natural Gas Prices On The Rise

With winter around the corner a lot of people are concerned about rising natural gas prices.

The cost of natural gas is already 25-percent higher than it was this time last year, but there are some local organizations trying to make sure that no one is left out in the cold. For people on a fixed income, the cost of heating a home can be too much to handle.

There are options for those who need help with their bill. The Salvation Army's “Heat Share” program is funded by Aquila customers who donate through their monthly gas bill.

Individuals applying for assistance must meet the following criteria:

1. Have a disconnection notice from their major energy source.

2. Be over 55 years of age, handicapped, disabled, have an infant 6 months or younger or have a verifiable medical problem.

3. Meet the low-income guidelines

4. Reside in service area.

5. Have a written referral.
