Neb. governor in talks about Arizona-style law
Gov. Dave Heineman may throw his weight behind a likely effort to have an Arizona-style immigration law in Nebraska. Heineman said Wednesday during a news conference on a separate topic that he has had several informal conversations with Attorney General Jon Bruning about how an Arizona-style law would relate to Nebraska.
Heineman said many Nebraskans support much of the Arizona law. Last week, a federal judge delayed the most contentious provisions of the Arizona law, including a section that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.
Heineman says he would take legal issues into account when deciding whether to help introduce a legislative bill this January. But he says possibility of being sued wouldn't stop him.
