Lincoln – Kate Smith, Audrey Judd, Sarah Pravecek and Emily Gillman helped Nebraska make a move up the leaderboard on the second day of the Chip-N Club Invitational on Monday at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.

Smith, a freshman from Detroit Lakes, Minn., tied for the best individual round of the day with a two-under-par 70 on the 6,276-yard layout at Wilderness Ridge.

Smith’s round puts her in contention for medalist honors heading into Tuesday’s final round. She completed the first 36 holes at 147 (77-70) and sits just two shots back of tournament leader Hailie Getz from South Dakota State.

It will mark the second time in three tournaments to open her collegiate career that Smith entered the final round in the top five on the leaderboard, as she shoots for her third straight top-15 tournament finish. Smith also owns three rounds better than par (69, 70, 70) in her first seven collegiate rounds.

Getz fired a 71 on Monday to gain control of the leaderboard. Getz’s Jackrabbit teammate Teresa Toscano matched Smith’s round with a 70 of her own to sit one shot back of Getz at 146. Toscano is tied with Florida International’s Camila Serrano (72-74), who slipped a shot off the lead after owning the top spot on the leaderboard following Sunday’s first round.

With Getz and Toscano leading the way, South Dakota State put together Monday’s best round with a 292, to close the gap on tournament leader Kansas State. The Wildcats hold the team lead at 593 (292-301), while the Jacks are just two shots back at 595 (303-292). FIU is well within striking distance of the team title at 597 (302-295), while Nebraska climbed into contention with Monday’s second-best round of 293.

The Big Red head to the final round at 607 (314-293) thanks to Smith and strong second rounds from Judd, Pravecek and Gillman.

Judd, a junior from Olathe, Kan., carded her best round of the young season with a one-over-par 73. She is tied for 19th at 152 through 36 holes.

Pravecek, a senior from Omaha, added a two-over-par 74 on Monday, while Emily Gillman provided the Huskers with their fourth score with a 76. Gillman, a junior from Austin, Texas, heads to the final round tied for 22nd at 153. Pravecek is tied for 36th at 157.

Freshman Annie Sritragul rounded out Nebraska’s lineup with a 79 on Monday to sit in a tie for 41st at 160.

Fellow freshman Claire Robertson rebounded from a rough opening round to shoot a solid 75 on Monday as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Robertson moved into a tie for 49th (162) in the 65-player field. Freshman Jessica Haraden completed the Husker contingent with an 81 on Monday. She sits in a tie for 60th at 169.

The Chip-N Club Invitational concludes with Tuesday’s final round, which begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
