Nebraska ACT scores exceed national average

The average ACT score for Nebraska's high school graduates remains at 22.1 this year, the same average attained since 2007,  but exceeds the national average of 21.

The ACT Education Division report showed that 73 percent of the state's 2010 graduates took the exam. Of the 16 states in which 70 percent or more took the ACT, Nebraska's average score was the second highest.

Minnesota had the highest in that group, with an average score of 22.9. While the SAT remains the most common college entrance exam, schools in Nebraska and other Midwest states traditionally lean toward the ACT exam, which is a composite of four subject areas tested: English, math, reading and science.

The highest score possible on the test is 36. SAT results are due out next week.
