Nebraska Baseball Wins 7th Straight

(Lincoln-ap) — John Grose hit a grand slam in the third inning and drove in a career-high five runs to lead Nebraska to a seven-to-three win against New Mexico on Monday. Nebraska jumped to an early seven-to-two lead off of Grose's homer — the first of his career.

The Cornhuskers are now on their 7th straight win and their 15th win in the last 16 games. Grose went one-for-four to help the Huskers, who improved to 22-and-five and are off to their best start since 1987.

While Grose provided most of the offensive firepower, Quinton Robertson and Brad Furnish combined to allow just one earned run. Robertson went the first five-and-two innings for his second straight win, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out seven batters. Furnish sealed the win with three innings of no-hit relief for his first career save.

Pitcher Darren Coltrinari took the loss for the Lobos, walking or hitting five of the first six batters he faced.
