Nebraska football wins season opener

Nebraska Football had a strong showing in their season opener against Fresno State Saturday.
Rushing was the name of the game for the Huskers, who ran for 292 of their 406 total offensive yards.
Devine Ozigbo put the Huskers on board first with back-to-back rushing touchdowns. His first came with 43 seconds left in the first, and later he punched in another with 12:34 left in the half.
Fresno State responded later in the second quarter after blocking a Nebraska punt. Bulldogs quarterback Chason Virgil connected with Aaron Peck on a 7-yard touchdown pass.
Husker linebacker Luke Gifford was ejected on a targeting penalty with less than three minutes to play in the half. The Bulldogs closing drive ended with a field goal to close out the half, Nebraska leading 14-10.
Tommy Armstrong, Jr. took over in the second half. He ran 9 yards to the end zone five minutes into the half, extending Nebraska’s lead 21-10.
A Kieron Williams interception at the end of the third quarter set Armstrong up for a huge 57-yard touchdown connection with Alonzo Moore to open the fourth.
Armstrong then drilled in another rushing score with 9:50 left in the game. Nebraska opted for the 2-point conversion, which was successful, putting the Huskers up 36-10.
Armstrong retired early, and second-stringer Ryker Fyfe took over. Fyfe’s first drive on the field ended in a rushing touchdown by true freshman Tre Bryant (43-10 Nebraska).

Kieron Williams intercepted Fresno State quarterback Chason Virgil with the clock winding down. Nebraska will start the 4th quarter with the ball on their 57-yard line.

The running back’s first punch came at the end of the 1st, with a 1-yard push into the end zone, capping off an 80-yard drive.
The Huskers were quick to strike again in the 2nd. Ozigbo rushed in for 6 more with 12:34 left in the half.
Fresno State responded late in the half after blocking a Nebraska punt. with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Chason Virgil to Aaron Peck to close the gap 14-7.
Husker linebacker Luke Gifford was ejected with less than three minutes to play for a targeting penalty. Gifford tackled Virgil, and officials ruled head-to-head contact.
The Bulldogs hit a field goal to end the half.
