Nebraska’s Republican leaders say Donald Trump’s convention speech helped him broaden his appeal to general election voters.

Gov. Pete Ricketts said Thursday that the hiccups at the convention will quickly be forgotten, but Trump’s focus on bipartisan issues such as national security and jobs will endure. He notes that Trump sought support from constituencies that have traditionally rejected the Republican Party, such as the gay and lesbian community and union workers.

Republican National Convention delegate J.L. Spray says Trump presented an honest, realistic assessment of the country’s condition which recognized that many Americans are suffering.

Spray says Trump should continue his focus on public safety, the economy, foreign policy and immigration _ issues he describes as “festering sores that have existed for the last eight years” under President Barack Obama.
